Versatile Medeli Digital Piano
From Samson

Medeli SP4200 Digital Piano.

NEW FROM SAMSON, the SP4200 Digital Piano features 88 full-sized hammer-action keys, 128-note polyphony, 600 voices, and a backlit LCD screen, retailing for just $479.99.

Great for schools seeking a full-orchestra-capable digital piano, the lightweight and portable SP4200 offers a USB port, MIDI In and Out jacks, and two 1/4" headphone output jacks. The optional $99.99 ST430 wooden stand with pedals allows the SP4200 to be displayed in a traditional upright fashion.

Incorporating innovative production techniques from over 35 years of making quality digital instruments, Medeli has designed a feature-rich digital piano is easy-to-play and affordable. With a compact design weighing only 38.5 pounds, the SP4200 is light enough to be used as a portable keyboard while still boasting 88 hammer action keys for a real piano experience. The SP4200 also includes a large backlit LCD, pitch bend wheel, and plenty of accessible parameter controls.

The SP4200 features 600 voices including faithful pianos and lush strings. Split and layer modes create rich sound combinations. With 128-note polyphony, no notes will be missed. Auto accompaniment puts a full backing band at the player’s fingertips, with selectable variations, based on chords played with the left hand. A handy “One Touch” setting can recall all auto accompaniment-related settings with a single button. The harmony function will automatically add harmony to the melody played with the right hand.

The SP4200 is also an excellent music education tool. The Twinova mode, ideal for one-on-one teaching, splits the keyboard into two parts with the same voice and pitch. The smart learning mode provides many ways to help learn a new song faster and better. For example, it arranges lessons and songs specifically for practice and records progress, rewarding the student for accurate performance.

The SP4200’s Performance Assistant feature further expands the playing experience. In the piano mode, it helps the user perform many difficult skills based on the chords played.

A choice of 26 harmony effects can be added to the melody on the right hand, giving the player a full and professional music experience. Sounds can be shaped with a choice of ten reverbs and eight chorus effects. For further refinement, there are five EQ settings to match the style being played.

Guild Revives GSR Series Acoustics

Guild GSR D-40T Deluxe limited-edition acoustic guitar.

GUILD’S HIGH-END, limited-edition Guild Special Run (GSR) series has been resurrected in time for production of the Oxnard, California factory’s commemorative 4000th Guitar. Guild relocated to its new Oxnard factory in mid-2014, with its first guitar, the M-20, coming off the line in 2016. The company has gradually ramped up production, adding increasingly more ornate models such as the F-55 and F-512 Maple to its lineup. Now that production is streamlined and the manufacturing team is well-trained, Guild is revisiting the Guild Special Run series.

GSR guitars were first introduced to the Guild line in 2009 at the company’s New Hartford, Connecticut factory, featuring special and exotic wood selections and custom appointments. In 2019, the GSR series will follow a similar format. New models will be based on current production, and Guild will use a variety of unique finishes, woods, inlays, electronics, and hardware options.

Kicking off the GSR Series, the commemorative 4000th Guitar is based on Guild’s prized 12-string jumbo model, the F-512. A solid AAAAA Adirondack spruce top and solid Madagascar rosewood back and sides kick this guitar up a notch, with a mother-of-pearl and abalone “Flying G” inlay on the 12th fret, showing off the handiwork of Guild’s newest generation of guitar makers. An LR Baggs Anthem pickup and nitrocellulose gloss finish round out this stunning acoustic. This guitar will be available for purchase at Chicago Music Exchange.

“The 4000th Guitar signifies the tremendous teamwork that is needed to build something as special as acoustic guitars,” says Guild R&D Engineer Jack Prior. “The mentorship and training that have happened in a relatively short amount of time is key for the creation of the guitars in this new Golden Age of Guild.”

New 400 Series LTD Guitars From ESP

ESP’s new EC-400 model in Black Pearl Fade Metallic, part of the LTD 400 Series.

ESP Guitars has introduced six new “400 Series” LTD models, all offering killer new metallic fade finishes. Designed with the professional performing and recording musician in mind, but offered at a price that even casual players can afford, all six of the new models feature pro-quality components from such makers as Seymour Duncan, EMG, Grover, and Floyd Rose.

The EC-400 comes in Black Pearl Fade Metallic ($749) and features a mahogany body and three-piece thin U-shaped mahogany neck, joined by set-thru construction for smooth, fast access to the highest frets. Its professional components include Grover tuners as well as EMG 60 (neck) and EMG 81 (bridge) active pickups for a wealth of tones from deep and dark to in-your-face aggressive sounds.

The H-400 Crimson Fade Metallic ($749) offers an arch-topped mahogany body. Built with set-thru construction, it has a speedy and comfortable three-piece thin U-shaped maple neck. Its fixed bridge is string-thru-body for added sustain and tone. An outstanding pair of direct-mounted Seymour Duncan Jazz (neck) and Custom-5 (bridge) pickups deliver harmonically complex, dynamic tones.

The M-400 Solar Fade Metallic ($749) is another guitar that won’t blend into the background. Like other M Series guitars, the M-400 is built for speed, with an extra thin U-shaped three-piece bolt-on maple neck, reverse headstock, and Floyd Rose Special bridge. The M-400 Solar Fade Metallic also comes with a superior pair of direct-mounted Seymour Duncan Jazz (neck) and Custom-5 (bridge) pickups.

The MH-400FR Blue Pearl Fade Metallic ($849) is a neck-thru-body guitar with a set of direct-mount EMG 85 (neck) and EMG 81 (bridge) active pickups, a great combination of punch tones for rhythm and lead playing in rock and metal. Components include Grover tuners and a Floyd Rose Special bridge. For a non-tremolo version, the MH-400NT Violet Pearl Fade Metallic ($799) offers its own neck-thru-body design, with Grover tuners and a TOM bridge with string-thru-body.

For players who love ESP’s asymmetrical double-cutaway Viper shape—but have been waiting for a guitar in a finish other than basic black—the Viper-400 Pinkberry Fade Metallic ($749) is just the model to grab the spotlight. This guitar features a classic set-neck design at 24.75" scale along with a mahogany body and three-piece mahogany neck. Pro features include Grover tuners, plus the versatile and outstanding tones from a set of Seymour Duncan’s vintage-voiced ’59 (neck) and hot-rodded JB (bridge) pickups.

Aviate Audio To Launch
Airpatch At NAMM

The patent-pending Airpatch will launch at Summer NAMM.

Aviate Audio will be launching its all new Airpatch device, billed as the first wireless effects loops switch for guitars, at the Summer NAMM show. Created by Aviate co-founders Ryan Jaquin and Shane Nolan, the patent-pending Airpatch is a wireless effects dock and controller that can interface with any pedal or signal chain. It allows musicians to control, through a single device, sound effects that normally require them to stomp on an array of effects pedals—and it does this wirelessly, right from the user’s guitar. This eliminates the back and forth “tap dancing,” that happens when trying to activate multiple effects pedals at once.

With Airpatch, users get more from their pedals—including momentary and reverse momentary switching, which quickly brings effects in and out of the signal. Airpatch also functions as a wireless killswitch, a unique feature that eliminates the need to drill or route in a killswitch. Multiple controllers can be paired and used on separate instruments, giving users the opportunity to interface multiple instruments during live performances. On top of that, Airpatch is small enough to fit in with a musician’s existing gear.

“Shane and I are both musicians, so we had firsthand experience with the limitations of guitar rigs,” said Jaquin. “We created a solution that solved the problems we were experiencing, but also added unique features that make Airpatch an innovative, creative tool.”

Aviate Audio is a music electronics company dedicated to developing next-generation devices to elevate musical performance. Jaquin and Nolan formed the company while students at the University at Buffalo, where their student team “Bitcrusher” won or placed high in numerous technology competitions including the New York State Business Plan Award competition. The collective award money was used as a startup fund for Aviate Audio.

Retro-Sonic Flanger Perfects A Classic

Retro-Sonic Flanger effects pedal.

THE RETRO-SONIC Flanger provides the distinctive liquidy character and chorusy flanging of the late-’70s 18-volt Electric Mistress. This “true to original” all-analog modern version uses an analog BBD path like the original unit to re-create the classic EM tones. Early original versions are known for being very noisy (even when they were switched off) and caused a nasty volume drop when engaged. Those issues have been corrected in this modern version.

The Retro-Sonic Flanger is capable of a wide range of sounds from chorusing to vibrato to classic sweeping flange. Powered by 12-18VDC, the circuit is designed to emulate the wide sweep of the original and runs optimally at 18v, just like the original V2 EM. Its flanger effect is selectable by heavy-duty footswitch control. Other controls include Overall Level to adjust perfect unity gain (no volume drop) as well as Rate, Range, and Color. An on/off LED displays effect status. U.S. street price $199.

Guitar Feedback, Volume Suppressor

Teracoustix Acoustic Guitar Feedback and Volume Suppressor.

WITH ITS PATENT-pending design, the new Teracoustix Acoustic Guitar Feedback and Volume Suppressor takes the popular rubber plug feedback buster to a new level. The desired opening of the acoustic guitar’s sound hole can be dialed in by rotating the Teracoustix’ bar knob. At the fully closed position, two side vents are activated to allow more of the guitar’s natural highs to come out, preventing muffled, overly bassy sounds when playing amplified. These vents point upward at the player for better and more directed guitar sound monitoring. With the Teracoustix in the half-open position, built-in pickup volume and EQ controls mounted in the guitar’s sound hole can be easily accessed. (In some cases, pickup controls can be remounted if necessary.)

When playing unplugged, the Teracoustix can be used as a volume suppressor, which is particularly handy when practicing or in guitar ensembles to control the volume of each guitar. Acoustic guitar sound at half-open also creates a new kind of tone, more focused and less boomy.

Unlike standard rubber plugs, which are occasionally removed from the guitar, the Teracoustix can remain on the sound hole because it has uses for both live and unplugged playing.

Special product design considerations include high-quality rubber that will not scratch the guitar, rubber side grips to ensure a firm fit in standard 4" sound holes, and an ergonomically shaped, tinted clear plastic knob that rotates smoothly to open and close stops. The Teracoustix Acoustic Guitar Feedback and Volume Suppressor is designed and assembled in the USA and available from Caster Tray. Dealer inquiries are welcome.

On-Stage ABY Switcher Gives Musicians Options

On-Stage GSP1000 ABY Switcher.

ON-STAGE, a division of The Music People, will debut its new GSP1000 ABY Switcher at Summer NAMM. Complete with true bypass circuitry, the GSP1000 ABY Switcher gives musicians the choice between 2 input/1 output and/or 1 input/2 output configurations.

The new GSP1000 allows players to run one signal to two separate amps for real-time stereo, pivot to and from two amps for dirty/clean dynamics, run two separate instruments through an effects chain simultaneously, or bypass anything from that temperamental boutique effect to their entire pedalboard.

The GSP1000 features a heavy-duty black anodized aluminum housing with a slip-resistant rubber base.

Wholegrain Improves
DynPEQ Plugin Family

Wholegrain Digital has updated its DynPEQ digital audio signal processor plugins.

WHOLEGRAIN DIGITAL Systems LLC has released the DynPEQ plugins version 1.4, digital audio signal processors that perform dynamic parametric equalization. Most notable in the new features is sidechain search, an audition mode facilitating fast and accurate location of bands of interest.

Version 1.4 expands Pro Tools support by several means. The DSP version of Quartet DynPEQ increases its channel capacity to ten, covering most new stem formats including first- and second-order Ambisonics. AAX DynPEQ expands its control surface support, especially for S6 and D-Control. The AAX Native DynPEQ is now compatible with Media Composer. “Last but not least,” adds Wholegrain founder Duane Wise, “the distribution includes a new plugin that converts a stereo stream from left/right to mono/stereo and back. DynPEQ users can now use multi-mono support built in to Pro Tools to perform mono/stereo processing with DynPEQ and other AAX plugins.”

DB Instrument Amp Releases TruGlide

TruGlide Tuning Stabilizer.

NEW FROM DB Instrument Amp, the TruGlide is an easy-to-install tuning stabilizer that guides the strings correctly through the nut of the classic three-by-three headstock. With this type of headstock, the four center strings pull sideways at the back of the nut, and the back edge of the string slot becomes a sharp point of friction. At its worst, the string binds, then suddenly slips, causing the infamous “ping” during tuning and, even worse, during bends. The TruGlide lets the nut do its job supporting the bottom of the string and then gently guides the strings to the tuners over a low-friction curved surface, allowing the strings to move freely and return to pitch even when bending to the sky.

And there are other cool TruGlide benefits: First, the strings tune up more accurately, the center tuners become more precise, and even the g string tunes up easily. And especially on acoustics, with TruGlide, the ringing strings above the nut don’t need to be dampened. The string geometry above the nut is modified, making the shorter string sections harder to excite and add undesirable overtones. No more digging around for hair scrunchies!

Peavey MAX 300 Bass Amplifier

Peavey MAX 300 Bass Amplifier.

Packing 300 watts, Peavey’s new MAX 300 is the most powerful model of the MAX bass amp series created especially for performers. Thoughtfully designed for portability, flexibility, and sound, with durable yet ultra-lightweight construction, it delivers plenty of power and state-of-the-art tonal quality.

The MAX 300 has a built-in Kosmos-C bass enhancement feature that adds harmonics and subharmonics for maximum tone. Along with a three-band EQ, the combo also offers Overdrive, Contour, Mid-Shift, and Bright switches. Peavey’s DDT clip-limiting technology protects the speakers.

The angled baffle design of the MAX 300 helps direct the sound where it’s needed. Instead of pointing the sound at the player’s ankles, the speaker is angled up to optimize both the player’s ability to hear and the amp’s overall projection.

The MAX 300 also enables players to enjoy maximum flexibility, whether they’re on stage, recording, or rehearsing. Players can utilize the external speaker out or EFX loop, while the ultra-quiet DI output is ideal for connecting into a p.a. system with excellent control and tone. The MAX 300 also features a built-in chromatic tuner with mute, a tuned and ported enclosure, an 1/8" headphone output, an 1/8" auxiliary input, and an XLR direct output with ground lift.
