Unique HyVibe Acoustics
Boast Onboard Effects

HyVibe-equipped guitars from Lâg open new performance horizons with onboard effects that can be managed and edited from a smartphone app.

The new Lâg Tramontane HyVibe series features a unique onboard vibration control system that simultaneously amplifies the guitar, adds effects, and even includes a looper. The instrument is the result of a collaboration between the French-based Lâg and HyVibe, a high-tech audio company.

The HyVibe uses a piezo sensor under the saddle that processes the signal from the strings and sends it to multiple actuators located on the top of the guitar. The actuators create a hybrid vibration combining the natural resonances of the guitar’s body and the processed vibration to create rich acoustic sound. The processor’s low latency takes the signal from the sensor, adjusts the sound, cancels feedback, and sends the signal back to the exciters.

The Hyvibe can be used to amplify the guitar, eliminating the need for external amplification in small performance venues. In addition, players can access a range of effects, including reverb, chorus, echo, distortion, and a pitch shifter, eliminating the need for a pedalboard. The effects can be controlled from a smartphone app.

HyVibe is the product of seven years of academic research in vibration and acoustics by Dr. Adrien Mamou-Mani at IRCAM, the world-renowned French institute for science, music, sound, and avant-garde electro-acoustical art music. Based on their findings, Mamou-Mani and his research team began applying their expertise to different materials, objects, and instruments. The first iteration of HyVibe technology has been used by renowned sound designers and musicians in the world’s most famous concert halls.

The HyVibe system is available on three distinct modes: the THV10DCE, which has a Venetian cutaway, slim neck, and brown wood fretboard, paired with a solid red cedar top and mahogany back/sides; the THV20DCE, which has a solid Engelmann spruce top, ovangkol back and sides, and a thin-profile neck; and the THV30DCE, which has a Bearclaw spruce top, bocote body, and slim-profile neck with a blackwood fretboard.

The guitars are distributed in the U.S. by KMC Music Group.

The Bullet Tuner, priced at $29.99, is a micro-sized clip-on tuner that’s designed for maximum visibility on the guitar and features the brand’s most advanced tuning engine. Weightless Straps combine classic Fender style with a stable, elastic-based design, ultimately removing weight from a player’s shoulder.

Yamaha Stage Pianos
For Gigging Musicians

Yamaha’s all-new CP stage pianos are available in 73- and 88-note versions.

Yamaha’s new 73-key CP73 and 88-key CP88 have been designed from the ground up for working keyboard players, featuring a completely redesigned, user-friendly interface.

The new CP series features three main sections that can quickly be split or combined as desired: Piano, Electric Piano, and Sub. With Voices sampled from the Yamaha CFX and Bösendorfer Imperial concert grands, plus a Yamaha U1 upright and CP80 electric grand, the Piano section lets the player address any musical style. Selectable damper resonance adds even more realism for solo passages.

The Electric Piano section includes three 1970s models of the classic tine piano, ranging from delicate sparkle to barky attitude. Brighter and darker variants on the Wurly, as well as Clav sounds, cover all the vintage-keys bases. Stompbox-style effects such as touch wah and phaser capture musical styles from Motown to prog rock.

The Sub section offers strings, pads, organs, chromatic percussion, and other Voices ideal for layering. Among this section’s effects is a realistic rotary speaker simulation that classic organ enthusiasts will surely appreciate. Synth-like attack and release controls provide further sonic sculpting.

All sections are arranged into a one-to-one user interface that eliminates deep menu-diving, allowing the player to maneuver on a dime. Independent sound selection, volume, tone, on/off, split, and octave-shift controls make creating performance setups more like driving a sports car than programming a keyboard. Setups are savable as Live Sets, instantly accessed by eight buttons.

The Balanced Hammer action of the CP73 is ideal for playing all types of Voices and sound combinations throughout a long gig without fatigue. For piano purists, the CP88 features the Natural Wood, triple sensor action as well as Synthetic Ebony and Ivory key tops to increase finger grip. Though both models boast all-aluminum construction, the CP73 weighs in at under 30 pounds.

Martin Pays Tribute To
Tattoo Artist “Sailor Jerry”

Martin has employed a labor-intensive “sand shading” technique to reproduce the tattoos of the famed artist “Sailor Jerry” on a special-edition dreadnought.

Martin is celebrating the famed American-style tattoo pioneer Norman “Sailor Jerry” Collins with a special edition dreadnought guitar. The unique instrument features elements of Collins’ work, titled “Homeward Bound,” inlaid with shell and hand-selected wood species on the headplate, fingerboard, and body. The artwork takes shape in a multitude of rich, earthy colors using a combination of pearl and natural wood tones. The wood tones are enhanced using a technique called sand shading, which involves heating pieces of wood until they darken.

The level of artistic talent that went into creating this fine guitar is immediately evident and timeless. In addition to the custom artwork, the guitar features flamed koa back and sides with quilted bubinga binding and a custom inlaid koa headplate. The top is heavy bearclaw Sitka spruce and features non-scalloped, forward-shifted X-bracing found in Martin’s recently reimagined Standard Series.

“Sailor Jerry” was born Norman Keith Collins was born in 1911 in Reno, Nevada but grew up in Northern California. As a child he hopped freight trains across the country and learned tattooing from a man named “Big Mike.” In the late 1920s, he met Tatts Thomas from Chicago, who taught him how to use a tattoo machine. He practiced on drunks brought in from Skid Row.

At age 19, Collins enlisted in the United States Navy. During his subsequent travels at sea, he was exposed to the art and imagery of Southeast Asia. During his career as a tattoo artist, he worked as a licensed skipper of a large three-masted schooner, on which he conducted tours of the Hawaiian islands.

Sailor Jerry made significant contributions to the art of tattooing, expanding the array of available colors and creating custom needle formations.

Aquarian Ice White
Reflector Drumheads

Ice White Reflector drumhead from Aquarian.

INSPIRED BY DRUMMING great Eric Moore, Aquarian Ice White Reflector drumheads feature a new two-ply hybrid film combination that enhances the stick attack when played at higher volumes. Like Aquarian’s original line of popular two-ply Reflector Heads, introduced in 2017, Ice White Reflectors are meant to be played hard, fast, and with emotion.

The result is a reflective white playing surface that brings even more of the player’s personality into the performance. Aquarian’s patented Safe-T-Loc Hoop makes for a quick and easy tune-up every time.

These heads are made to reflect the passion and emotion of those who love to play with a wide range of dynamics: warm and musical at low volume; focused, articulate, and deliberate when played hard; clean and clear when played fast. Available in 6" to 26" sizes.

Camelot Cross-Platform
App For Music Creators

Audio Modeling’s Camelot app works seamlessly across multiple platforms.

DEVELOPED THROUGH a collaboration between Audio Modeling and Fatar, Camelot is a cross-platform application for Windows, macOs, and iOS (iPad) that lets music creators quickly set up and recall hardware instruments and VST/AU plug-in software instrument presets; use external MIDI keyboards and MPE controller mapping; and manage PDF lyrics, chords, and music sheets. This new aplication combines the benefits of hardware instruments with the adaptability of software solutions. Ableton Link integration, as well as MIDI Clock transmission, fills the gap between hardware and software.

Camelot was created to provide a simple and unified way to manage musical instruments: no matter if they are hardware or software; no matter the manufacturer; no matter whether the user works from a windows computer, a macOS laptop, or an iPad. With Camelot, musicians focus more on making music and less on dealing with connection setup, MIDI programming, and technical issues.
