On-Stage Adds Sturdy
New Drum Throne

On-Stage MDT2 Drum Throne.

ON-STAGE, a division of The Music People, has rolled out its new MDT2 Drum Throne. Unlike most drum thrones, the MDT2 features an internal nylon sleeve around the height-adjustable shaft and a spider-shaped insert at the base that holds the two shafts securely in place, eliminating any wiggling of the seat and offering players a sturdy solution. The MDT2’s improved design features a larger and thicker seat diameter stuffed with a high-density foam to provide maximum comfort and support, especially for drummers playing a long gig. The height of the drum throne can be adjusted from 19.5" to 24.4" with five locking pin locations. Fender Unveils Albert
Hammond Jr. Strat

Fender’s Albert Hammond Jr. Stratocaster.

AS PART OF A UNIQUE collaboration with singer, songwriter, and guitarist Albert Hammond Jr., Fender Musical Instruments Corporation (FMIC) is now offering the Albert Hammond Jr. Stratocaster. Available now at local music dealers worldwide and on Fender.com, the model is a reproduction of Hammond Jr.’s prized 1985 reissue of a ’72 Strat with personal touches, celebrating his unique playing style and desire to inspire new musical journeys for guitar players everywhere. While he’s recognized for his work with The Strokes, Hammond Jr. has more recently been blazing his own trail, touring the globe in support of his new solo record Francis Trouble.

“When I got my 1985 reissue ’72 Strat, it was like a blank slate to me, and I went on a journey with the guitar itself,” Hammond Jr. said. “I just like the idea that we took this amazing sounding guitar and it has pieces of me in it, but it’s a blank slate for someone to have their own journey with. When we designed it, I wanted a new generation of guitar player to grab it, find their own sound, and just feel the same way I did when I played it for the first time.”

This Stratocaster is laden with Hammond Jr.’s personally selected features, including a six-saddle synchronized tremolo bridge, his signature on the back of the large ’70s-style headstock, and customized pickup switching: Position four activates the neck and bridge pickups in tandem, while positions one and three are reversed from the traditional layout. Other ’70s-inspired features include a bullet truss rod nut, three-bolt “F”-stamped neck plate with period-correct Micro-Tilt adjustment, and a ’70s-era logo. In addition, the tremolo arm has been left off, reflecting Albert Hammond Jr.’s performance setup and playing preference. This guitar retails for $874.99.

“Albert Hammond Jr. was part of bringing the Stratocaster back to the forefront,” said Justin Norvell, executive vice president, Fender products. “His sonic signature and identity is something that shines through as you hear bands play live at festivals. He’s left an indelible mark on the music community through his work in The Strokes, and as a solo artist who puts out great records. That inspiration is what we wanted to honor with this Artist Signature Series model.”

The creation process behind the Albert Hammond Jr Stratocaster is covered in a video posted at https://youtu.be/R7IImKMX-g8.

Electro-Harmonix
Flatiron Fuzz

Electro-Harmonix Flatiron Fuzz pedal.

THE NEW ELECTRO-Harmonix Flatiron Fuzz is an extremely versatile, classic op-amp powered fuzz/distortion unit housed in a pedalboard-friendly die-cast chassis. Its distinctive sound comes from classic, late-’70s-style circuitry, which delivers symmetrical hard clipping reminiscent of the old Rat pedal.

The Flatiron Fuzz features three controls: Volume, Drive, and Filter. Volume sets the output level, and Drive adjusts the amount of sustain and distortion. The unique Filter control is actually a low pass filter with a movable cut-off frequency. This lets the player dial in the precise amount of high-end they prefer, from dark to raunchy.

At lower drive settings, the Flatiron Fuzz remains fairly clean and adds a pleasing, mild distortion. Turning Drive up produces very dense, thick, meaty tones. As the guitar’s volume is turned down, it cleans up, but not all the way.

The Flatiron Fuzz is named after the historic Flatiron Building in New York City, an iconic landmark located just down the block from Electro-Harmonix’ 1970s headquarters. It features true bypass switching for maximum signal path integrity in bypass mode, comes equipped with a 9V battery, and accepts an optional EHX 9-volt power supply. U.S. street price $72.70.

Peavey Unveils SP 2P
Powered Speaker

Peavey SP 2P speaker.

EXPANDING ON its popular SP Series speakers for rock-solid live audio performance, Peavey’s new SP 2P Powered Speaker System comprises two switching power amplifiers and professional-grade speaker components to deliver clarity and impact beyond conventional powered enclosures. The reasonably priced SP 2P loudspeaker system is capable of up to 130 dB peak SPL, making it ideal for a variety of applications including sound reinforcement, public address, side fill, karaoke, and musical playback.

The dual power amplifiers in the SP 2P system are low-distortion switching units that provide 1,000 watts peak available power into the nominal 4 ohm load of the woofer, and a 500 watt peak available power into the nominal 8 ohm load of the tweeter. The power supply for both amps is a switch mode type for low weight and high efficiency. Both amps have Peavey’s DDT compression, which virtually eliminates audible power amplifier clipping.

Like other units in Peavey’s SP Series, the SP 2P has a 15" Black Widow BWX series woofer, but now with a long-throw voice coil for even stronger low frequencies. The 2" RX 22CT titanium diaphragm compression driver is coupled to a quadratic throat waveguide and has a coverage pattern of 100° horizontal by 50° vertical.

On the SP 2P’s back-panel, each of the two independent mixed input channels has a balanced input to the preamp/EQ electronics and a level control. Each channel also has one combo female XLR and 1/4" TRS phone jack, switchable between mic-level and line-level sensitivity. Additionally, channel 2 has an added 3.5 mm media jack. A line out section has male XLR connectors, and the Thru outputs allow linking of additional speaker systems or feed of the signal to a powered subwoofer. A rotary knob allows the user to select and choose menu options, such as the dynamic bass boost and nine-band EQ on the LCD display screen. The SP 2P is fan-cooled for maximum reliability.

Speakers in Peavey’s SP Series are lighter and more compact, making them easy to pack in a van or install in the club. Weighing in at about 60lbs and measuring 30" high by 20" wide by 20" deep, the SP 2P is constructed from plywood augmented with internal braces and covered with a textured black painted finish. The trapezoidal unit has a full-length coated perforated steel grille, offering an attractive yet durable powered speaker system. A four-way handle on each side provides ease of transport, while multiple fly points are provided to allow overhead rigging. A pole mount is also included.

Combining classic tube sound and feel with next-generation tonal diversity, each Nextone (pronounced “nex-tone”) amp offers multiple channels and instant re-voicing via four Class AB analog power amp types selectable from the panel. Nextone amps also include convenient modern features such as built-in effects, a dynamically responsive power control, and personalized sound customization using the Nextone Editor software for Mac and Windows.

Widely acclaimed by guitarists everywhere, the Tube Logic design approach delivers real-deal sound, feel, and response by reproducing the complex interactive behaviors of tube amps in every way. This process also provides valuable advantages for today’s players, including greater reliability, reduced weight, and maintenance-free operation. Tube Logic has evolved even further with the Nextone series, unlocking access to deep tone customization features that are impractical or impossible with traditional tube designs.

With an easy turn of a panel dial, Nextone users can redefine the amp’s overall sonic signature and playing feel with the unique characteristics of 6V6, 6L6, EL84, and EL34 output tube sections. Each selection re-voices the entire circuit from input to output, putting the complete sonic experience of these four classic analog power stages in one amp for the very first time.

Nextone amps also include built-in delay, reverb, and tremolo effects, bringing even more versatility and convenience to gigging guitarists. And with the integrated power control, players can experience authentic cranked-amp tone while matching the volume to any situation, be it home, studio, or stage.

Each Nextone amp features a dual-channel design with clean and lead channels, Boost and Tone switches, a three-band tone stack, and a presence control. With a quick button press, the user can switch the amp into custom mode and access factory-tweaked variations of the standard clean and lead channels. Players can further customize the sound with the intuitive Nextone Editor, fine-tuning bias, sag, EQ, effects, and other settings to match their individual style, touch, and pedal preferences.

The optional GA-FC foot controller provides a command center for channel selection, Tone, Boost, effects, pedal volume, and more. Alternately, up to three FS-series footswitches can be used to control various functions. There’s also a line out for sending a direct signal to a PA, plus a phones/recording output for silent practice and tracking sessions.

In addition to providing communication with the Nextone Editor, the amp’s USB jack functions as a direct recording interface for a DAW. Using the editor software, the character of the direct sound can be set to one of three Air Feel settings for a range of mic’d cab tones.

The flagship Nextone-Artist features 80 watts of power, while the Nextone-Stage delivers 40 watts of power and a slightly more streamlined cabinet. Both amps come equipped with a custom 12" speaker.

Sequential Produces Last
Prophet 12 Synths

Sequential Prophet 12 LE Synthesizer.

SEQUENTIAL has unveiled a special numbered, limited edition run of its acclaimed Prophet 12 Analog/Digital Hybrid synthesizer. Dubbed the Prophet 12 LE, it features a custom Arctic White finish with maple end caps, making it a visually striking contrast to the standard Prophet 12, which has been a significant part of the Sequential product line since its introduction in 2013. The Prophet 12 LE will be strictly limited to 100 instruments worldwide and will commemorate the last of these synthesizers that Sequential will create. After that, the Prophet 12 will no longer be available.

“It’s nice to give the Prophet 12 a proper send-off with this special edition,” said founder Dave Smith. “The P12 was a real milestone for us in terms of pushing the synth envelope. As a hybrid instrument, it gave us a chance to explore the interaction of digital oscillators and analog filters and see how far we could take that idea. It’s still a great instrument and has found its way onto a lot of stages and studios, and into a lot of music.”

Recalling the genesis of the Prophet 12, Sequential Product Designer Andrew McGowan added, “We’d just released the Tempest analog drum machine after several years of development, and we were turning our attention back to synths for the first time in a while. It gave us the opportunity to look at things with a fresh eye. Interestingly, when Dave and I sat down to draw up a spec, it was immediately apparent that we’d each been sort of designing the same instrument in our minds during our ‘time away’—a hybrid synth with digital oscillators, dual analog filters, and new modulation possibilities. The Prophet 12 came together quickly after that and turned out really well for us.”

The Prophet 12 LE has the same combination of features as the original Prophet 12: a bi-timbral, 12-voice architecture, with each voice boasting four high-resolution, multi-waveform digital oscillators, a sub-oscillator, analog low-pass and high-pass filters, analog VCAs, four envelopes and four LFOs, and a set of unique Character Effects for sound shaping. Linear FM capability was later added to the Prophet 12 as a software enhancement, giving the instrument even greater depth and making it one of Sequential’s most versatile poly synths.
The Prophet 12 LE is now available at a U.S. MAP of $2,999. A limited number of standard-finish black Prophet 12s are also available while stock lasts.
